A Girls' Weekend Away in Parry Sound!

Spring in Parry Sound

Did you know that Ontario's provincial flower (the trillium) came in red as well as the traditional white? I came across this patch of red trilliums over on Parry Island two weeks ago - they come out earlier in the season than the white ones. This has been an incredible year for them...enjoy the pictures!

A wet and fun weekend for sports enthusiasts

40 Bay Street Bed & Breakfast was host to two groups of fun-seekers this past weekend. Jeff, Jason and Mark are avid ATVers who returned for their second year at Springjam 2008 - and are already looking forward to next year. In the meantime, we hosted Sarah and John, who participated in White Squall's Georgian Bay Canoe and Kayak Festival.

Everyone agreed that it was a wet but warm weekend. For pictures of the fun, click on the links to the web sites!

Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary

I had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Sanctuary yesterday with Kris, Anna and their son Pavel who are visiting from Poland.

When I called to see if we could visit, Jai warned us to wear boots as it was really muddy - and she wasn't kidding! Not only was it muddy, but it was snowing - quite hard at times.

The sanctuary has just finished releasing the majority of it's rehabilitated animals, but there were still plenty of wildlife to see. In under an hour, we saw a black bear, deer, 2 different types of wolves, a lynx, tiger and raccoons. For the first time, I saw a live beaver up close - I was surprised at how big it was, and got a great look at its webbed feet, leathery-looking tail and teeth.

I will definitely ensure that I will continue to encourage our guests to visit and support the work of the Sanctuary.
